This week, President Obama nominated former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel to be Secretary of Defense. If approved, Hagel would be the first Vietnam veteran and enlisted soldier to lead the department.
Also this week in Israel in the News:
• Hagel is expected to face a tough confirmation hearing from both parties for his positions on Israel and Iran.
• Jewish advocates also are not happy with the Hagel nomination because he has been critical of Israel’s relationship with the U.S.
• Israel is taking steps to ensure the violence from Syria doesn’t spill across its border.
• Netanyahu criticizes the international community for focusing their attention on the wrong issues.
This week’s Israel in the News Perspective features The Fellowship’s Jonathan Greenberg on the problems with the Hagel nomination for Israel and her supporters.
